A RIP-Queue dot pattern that produces continuous tone data (such as RGB TIFF output) as opposed to half-tone data.

Allows the printer to determine dot placement by processing on the printer hardware with the printer OEM dot pattern. Uses a very fine or custom pattern to appear to reproduce colors as simulate continuous tones.

  • Pros
    •  Processing speed - Allows printer hardware to upscale resolution.
    • Easy to profile (especially manufacture media).
      • Most models use internal calibrations means you can go straight to ICC step when profiling.
      • No need to determine Ink Restrictions and rarely any need for ink limiting.
    • Printer does the halftone processing and uses manufacturer dot patterns.
    • Profiles and mode options only display valid setting for media.
  • Cons
    •  No control over using other dot patterns, locked into the printer capabilities.
    •  No control over ink usage or the ability to correctly identify ink usage using ink calculation.
    • Manufacturer media defaults with limited modes.
