Drop Size Control

Some older printer drivers use VarDot sliders prior to setting ink restrictions. This step allows you to print a series of swatches to choose what combination of dots you want to use. Look for a compromise between smoothness and saturation when looking at 1-10, then enter the value for the channel and proceed to Ink Restrictions.

Changes to the profiling methodology for newer printer (7.1 and beyond) added the "coverage curves" process which automatically sets these values to the optimal setting. If possible choose a newer VarDot ink configuration labeled 'Enhanced" when you set up your printer configuration options. When you are using a 7.1 or later printer dirver and the "Enhanced Ink configuration" this step is eliminated.

See the white paper on the web for 'What's new in 7.1" page 10 for more details.

Drop size control will allow you to choose a setting that gives you the preferred mix of small, medium, and large dots.  Remember that it is important to make sure you are getting enough ink on the media to provide sufficient density and coverage while still preserving the smoothness and high resolution you want from the smaller and medium dots.
