When you are working with any graphic application it's important to know the working space for your image (also known as the input or source profile). When you open a file that has an embedded profile into PhotoShop you will be asked which profile to use. The best practice is to use what you "know" for setting expectations.

  • If the customer has used an embedded profile on purpose you should continue to use what is in the file.
  • If your customer does not know what input profile was used, you are usually better off to convert the image to your current working space. When you save the image for printing, embed the current profile and save the image.

You can view other Adobe options for different regions within PhotoShop by clicking Edit > Color Settings.

The Settings drop-down list displays other North American, European, and Asian preferences.

Each setting has it's own set of working space options for RGB and CMYK.
