Processing options are device capabilities that process specific channels for a given output depending on how many color channels are in the image data. Enabling one of these selections means that your final output is processed using the specified colors channels.

This setting allows for what is available within the printer while the actual color separations are determined either by the ICC profile or the creative application. The ICC decides what combination of inks are used to reproduce a color.

Processing Options include:

  • K - turns off CMY information and only prints with black ink.
  • RGB - internally the data is converted to the corresponding CMY color value then converted back to the RGB equivalents for the final output. Used with "Light" producing devices such as the LightJet, Lambda, and Chromira.
  • CMY - turns off the K (does not use black) channel and only sends three channels of data. Use this option when profiling RGB Contone.
  • CMYK -  Most print devices output using CMYK processing options (including printers with "light cyan" and "light magenta" inks).
  • CMYKOG, CMYKGB, CMYKOB, CMYKRG, CMYKRGB, CMYKOGB - these depend on the specific device having the actual ink color is the corresponding channels available. Devices that are configured with additional channels can also be configured to support "spot" data in those same channels. You can process using a sub-set or a super-set of these color channels. For example: You can process CMYKOG data for a CMYK printer to produce separations. Your only print option will be to print separation in this case and the ink configuration would need to support K.
