Media Manager Profiling Guide Version 7 : Recalibrate a Mode
This page last changed on Aug 19, 2008 by johannaf.
Recalibration is an important step for maintaining quality color output. You can recalibrate a mode within Media Manger or RIP-Queue.
In ONYX the calibration table and the ICC profile table are kept separate. This allows you to recalibrate without invalidating your ICC information. You do not need to create a new ICC profile when you recalibrate, this process simply updates the calibration table and adjust for the current output while keeping the original linearization in place. To Recalibrate from Media Manager:The selections in the drop-down list depend on the printer that is displayed in the upper right-hand corner of the Media Manager window. You will be prompted to Configuring Color Sampling Devices, if you haven't already done so.
Note: If for some reason your printer does not achieve the density of the original profile, the target density on the upper end will go flat on that channel and there is no warning. You cannot reset to original. You then have to re-install your profile and increase the ink restriction hopefully to meet the target. Tweak profile in v6.5 was a fast and easy way to check this. In V7 you can check this within the View Media Library > access the media/mode you want to review and click > edit. Some users will scale their initial target densities by 95% to 90% to allow a bit of leeway for the future re-calibrations. This is also assuming that future calibrations will always be lower. The benefit of keeping the upper limit of your target densities "floating" is that if your printer can produce a higher density you're not locked in and the maximum gamut is always achievable.
