Term used to describe the strength, purity, or vividness of a hue. Saturation indicates how much color is present. When there is no saturation, there is no color; the more saturation, the more color there is of the given hue.

Tries to preserve the saturation properties of colors as much as possible, even at the expense of hue accuracy or perceptual relationships. This is usually, but not always, the preferred rendering intent for information graphics where it's desirable to maintain saturated vivid colors.

See Rendering Intents.
